Sinusitis diagnosis and treatment

Understanding Sinusitis

Sinusitis (also known as rhinosinusitis) is an inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses — the air-filled cavities located around the nasal passages, cheeks, forehead, and between the eyes.

Sinusitis affects approximately 1 in 8 adults annually and can be acute (lasting less than 4 weeks), subacute (4-12 weeks), chronic (12+ weeks), or recurrent (multiple episodes per year).

Did You Know? Chronic sinusitis affects over 30 million people in the US alone and is one of the most common reasons for doctor visits.

Types of Sinusitis

🟢 Acute Sinusitis

Sudden onset, symptoms last less than 4 weeks. Usually follows a cold.

🟡 Subacute Sinusitis

Inflammation lasting 4-12 weeks.

🔴 Chronic Sinusitis

Symptoms persist for 12+ weeks despite treatment.
